This project aims to examine global soccer in global NYC through a documentation of the fan culture behind international derby matches. In addition, it looks at the politics, identity, and migration issues associated with these matches in various NYC immigrant neighborhoods.
It also hopes to show that not only is soccer flourishing in the city, but that New York City may very well be one of the best soccer cities in the world.
This started as a collaborative final project for the fall 2012 Global Soccer, Global Politics course in the Graduate Program for International Affairs at the New School University.
However, its members plan to continue their exploration of different neighborhoods, other feisty derbies, and more amazing off-the-radar NYC soccer enclaves in search of good futbol.
